After the heroes of the universe managed to kill the infected Jordan, his spirit went on to become host of the Spectre entity, the vehicle for the Wrath of God. Jordan eventually went insane and destroyed the Green Lantern central power battery, and then the entire Green Lantern Corps. Hal's life has not been without a considerable amount of tragedy, however, and after watching his hometown of Costal City destroyed by the alien warlord Mongol, Hal eventually succumbed to the fear-based impurity Parallax, the greatest threat to all Green Lanterns. Hal went on to many adventures, eventually joining the Justice League of America to become one of Earth's greatest heroes. However, he soon discovered that the seemingly heroic Sinestro was actually a tyrannical despot, and made his first great act as a Green Lantern Corp member by bringing his one-time mentor to justice. Under the tutelage of Corp member Sinestro, Jordan learned how to command his powerful new weapon. After inheriting Sur's Green Lantern ring and speaking the legendary Green Lantern oath for the first time, Hal embarked upon a heroic career as guardian of both Earth and all of Sector 2814. Jordan grew up to follow in his father's shoes as a fearless experimental pilot for Ferris, and it was there that Jordan fatefully stumbled upon the dying Abin Sur. At the young age of ten, Jordan watched his test pilot father die in a fiery plane crash over Ferris Aircraft, and it was then that this young hero learned what it meant to overcome fear.
